Northern New Jersey is known best for it’s urban sprawl situated in the shadow of one of the busiest metropolitan areas in the world, but it’s also home to a diverse array of wildlife, especially birds. In fact, the Garden State is home to 400 species of birds. From the shores of Cape May to the old growth cedar swamps of Sussex County, New Jersey hosts various habitats catering to both Northern and Southern species. Just over the river in Northern Pennsylvania, dense mixed and coniferous forests situated in the footprint of ancient glaciers mirror the boreal forests of the far north, and subsequently harbor a completely different set of birds of the forests just a short drive over the state line.
If you’d like to explore these natural spaces, join me in the field for an instructional photography workshop. Each Spring I lead tours in the forests of Northern New Jersey/Pennsylvania to photograph the very birds that call these regions home. Our focus on this outing will be to capture stunning images of neotropical songbirds as they arrive on territory. Whether you’re after tight, frame-filling shots or environmental portraits, the opportunities are plentiful. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have witnessed just some of the natural splendor the Northeast has to offer.
Every season is different than last, so it is my job to scout ahead and provide guidance on what birds are most active, and which area is most productive. Of course, these are wild animals and as a result here are no guarantees, but I will put you in the best possible position to capture the images you desire to shoot.
This workshop is 1-on-1, though larger groups can be accommodated upon request.
